Wedding Invitations - Gabrielle & Abdelhamid

In spring of 2026, my partner and I visited our friends Gabrielle & Abdelhamid in London while we were on vacation. Around the same time, the couple had announced their engagement, and since they kindly allowed us to stay with them free of charge I offered to design their wedding invitations as a thank you gift.

First, I was provided a few inspiration images of traditional Tunisian ceramic art and an AI-generated mockup based on those images (shown on slide 1 below). Gabrielle & Abdelhamid had met for the first time in Tunisia while she was working there several years prior, and as such, the couple was very invested in these invitations looking the part and following the Tunisian style closely.

I was also provided with a wedding mood board (slide 2), from which I derived several of the colors used in the invitation as well as some of the key elements that made this design unique to the couple.

One of the key motifs in the design is the Bougainvillea flower, which will be central in the wedding floral decorations. To incorporate this into the design, I designed a tile depicting the bloom head on (slide 3)  that appears in the four corners of the invitation, as well as at the top and bottom of the order of events page. I also included side profile illustrations of the bloom, which adorn other parts of the invitation.

I kept the general structure of the mockup, but studied the patterns and designs present in many of the reference images and filled in the space with original illustrations intended to capture the style of the references (slide 4).

Following this, I went through several rounds of digital painting to fill in the colors, receiving feedback from both the couple and some of their friends who live in Tunisia and are more directly familiar with the art style. After trying approximately 10 different color configurations, we settled on one (slide 5) and moved on to typesetting (slide 6).

After the design was completed, some slight alterations were made to the typeface and the background color of the order of events page before the final product (slide 7) was printed and shipped out!
